Copyright & AI-Generated Content

How Canvas creations are made
Canvas uses third-party AI music-generation models (including Suno and Udio) together with our own composition, lyric and mastering pipeline to turn your prompt into an original track. Outputs are not recordings, samples or copies of any existing artist's work.
Authorship & copyright status of your output
Copyright law's treatment of AI-assisted works is still evolving and differs by jurisdiction. In the United States, the Copyright Office has indicated that works generated with no meaningful human creative control may not qualify for copyright protection, while human-authored elements (your original prompt, lyrics you write or edit, and creative choices in arranging or selecting outputs) may be protectable. The UK, EU and other jurisdictions apply different tests. Canvas does not guarantee that any specific output qualifies for copyright protection in your jurisdiction.
Your license from Canvas
Subject to our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy, Canvas grants you a broad license to use, distribute and commercialise the tracks you create, to the extent Canvas holds or can grant those rights. This license does not grant you rights to any third-party material that is independently protected by copyright.
Training data & underlying models
The underlying AI models used by Canvas — including third-party providers such as Suno and Udio — are trained on large audio datasets assembled by those providers, generally a mix of licensed and publicly available recordings. Canvas does not own those models, does not control their training data, and defers to each provider's stated data and licensing practices. Canvas does not intentionally reproduce copyrighted works, and regional Anthem tracks in particular are original compositions "inspired by" a tradition — not recordings or samples of any specific artist's catalog. See our AI & Cultural Music framework for how we approach cultural representation.
Disclosure
Canvas labels AI-generated output on-platform (an "AI-Generated" tag at the point of creation and on published tracks) in line with EU AI Act Article 52-style transparency expectations.
